Budapest - The 2017 world aquatic championships ended on Sunday.

A look at the some of the best quotes from the swimming section over the last eight days:

"It's unbelievable man, unheard of until now, everything is impossible until someone does it."

- America's Nathan Adrian after team-mate Caeleb Dressel won three world gold medals in just 98 minutes on Saturday. Dressel finished up with seven golds overall to match the record set by Michael Phelps.

"That will light some fire under me for the next couple of years."

- Katie Ledecky of the USA after taking silver in the women’s 200m freestyle final - her only defeat in 15 world finals spanning three championships.

"I'm really happy I could erase one of those textile-suit records. A lot of people thought those times from 2009 would be impossible to beat."

- Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom after her 50m freestyle world-record bettered Brita Stefan's previous time set in 2009.

"I had a bit of snot on my face, it was really annoying I could feel it everywhere, it gave me something else to think about other than hurting."

- Australia’s Emily Seebohm had more than just her rivals to worry about in the women’s 50m backstroke heats.

"I don't think I'll ever retire. I think I'll just fizzle out, that will probably be my game plan, or stop being relevant, that's probably when I'll stop showing up at these meets. I just love the lifestyle."

- Evergreen American Matt Grevers, 32, who won silver in the men's 100m backstroke and bronze over 50m.

"At first I didn't realise. I was waiting for someone else to start celebrating. When no-one did, then I looked at the scoreboard and saw my name on top."

- Britain's Ben Proud, who was as shocked as anyone else after victory in the men's 50m butterfly.

"What is today's date? I have a maths test in two days, I'm not good at maths, it's tough being at college and doing all this, so thank you to my algebra teacher."

- America's Caeleb Dressel had other things on his mind on Saturday after becoming the first swimmer to win three gold medals in one day at the world championships.

"People know me for laughing, but if they see me crying they will be very sad, so this time I will go home before I cry."

- China's Fu Yuanhui after her heartbreak at having missed gold in the women's 50m backstroke final by just 0.01 secs behind Brazil's Etiene Medeiros.

"My family's health is more important than gold medals. I make no excuses for what happened last year. I said that was the worst performance of my life in the 200m butterfly, that I'd like to come back stronger and try to win the gold medal and that's what I did tonight."

- South Africa's Chad le Clos after victory in the 200m butterfly final - a year after finishing fourth in the Olympic final when both parents were suffering from cancer.

"She's a great distraction, sometimes I look at her and think 'wow, I'm glad I'm not that wound up before a race', she makes me feel good about myself."

- Australia's Taylor McKeown, 22, jokes about sharing a room in Budapest with her 16-year-old sister Kaylee.
