Cape Town - Some of SA’s top cyclists will descend on Stellenbosch to compete in Die Burger Cycle Tour 2010 this weekend, including last year’s female winner Jennie Stenerhag (Alpha Pharm).
Stenerhag, who hails from Sweden but lives in South Africa for 6 months every year, is hoping for her fourth consecutive victory at this year’s event. “I’m definitely going to try and win again. Die Burger Cycle Tour is a special race for me. Stellenbosch is my adopted hometown, so it’s always nice to race here, and I can cycle to the start from my home.”
Team mates Moolman Welgemoed and David Garrett (Daikin-GU) will also be in action. “It’s the last race of the season and our whole elite squad will be riding. We’re hoping for a double win - a repeat of 2008, when Daikin-GU won the Coronation DC and I won Die Burger Cycle Tour,” confirmed Garrett.
Robert Quinn, Dominic Calitz, Anton Wynand, Stellenbosch cycling legend Linus van Onselen and veteran Cathy Carstens will also be riding. Die Burger Cycle Tour is the final seeing opportunity for the 2011 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour.
