Hunter misses TDF spot

Sydney - South Africa's Robbie Hunter has been left out of the Radioshack line-up for next month's Tour de France.

Hunter tweeted on Wednesday: So no TDF this year..probably do Vuelta now.. Well that's the idea..before then some home time and a few races in between..

I see a bit of golf playing in my July program now..

Meanwhile, Australia's Robbie McEwen has almost certainly ridden his last Tour de France after he was also left out of the Radioshack line-up.

According to the ABC website, McEwen, who turns 39 on Friday, has 12 stage wins from 11 editions as well as three green jerseys for best overall sprinter.

However his American team could find no room for McEwen when it announced its nine-man squad.

"Not riding the Tour this year," McEwen confirmed on Twitter.

"Going to focus on having a strong final part of the season.

"Looks like Vuelta and hopefully a spot in worlds for OZ."

Radioshack, of which retired seven-time Tour champion Lance Armstrong is one of the team principals, has opted to focus on overall victory rather than stage wins.

"With Jan Brajkovic, Chris Horner, Andreas Kloden and Levi Leipheimer, we will start with four guys who will be able to contend for the general classification," team manager Johan Bruyneel said.

"It was hard to make the selection of these nine riders.

"After the injury of Sebastien Rosseler, we still had a pre-selection of 14 riders.

"In the end we can say that the complete 2011 Tour roster has been chosen based on the strongest team from both a sportive and experience criteria."

Radioshack line-up:

Jani Brajkovic (SLO), Chris Horner (USA), Markel Irizar (ESP), Andreas Kloden (GER), Levi Leipheimer (USA), Dmitriy Muravyev (KAZ), Sergio Paulinho (POR), Yaroslav Popovych (UKR), Haimar Zubeldia (ESP)
