McEwen, Hunter in Lance team

Adelaide - Australian sprinter Robbie McEwen will debut with his new team Team RadioShack at Australia's Tour Down Under next month, organisers said on Friday.

McEwen, 38, who has won 12 stages at both the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia, will join American Lance Armstrong in Team RadioShack for the January 16-23 tour around Adelaide in South Australia.

"McEwen has won more stages (12) of our race than anyone else and is a big favourite with the fans," race director Mike Turtur said.

McEwen and South Africa's Robbie Hunter this month signed to race for seven-time Tour de France winner Armstrong's RadioShack team in 2011.

Both men were part of the Pegasus Sports project, which failed to get a ProTour licence for the new season and they opted to change teams.

"It is a relief that I have secured a contract with Team RadioShack, obviously one of the best teams in the world where I can ride at the ProTour level in what I'm planning to be my last year as a professional," McEwen said.

"When it became obvious that I had to look for another team, Team RadioShack really was my first choice.

"That's why I contacted Lance. I still believe that I am one of the fastest sprinters in the world."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
