London to copy SA's cycle tour

Cape Town - The City of London in England is to use the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour as a blueprint for their own cycle tour, the Cape Argus reported on Monday.

A delegation had reportedly visited the last two cycle tours in Cape Town to see how to handle almost 40 000 riders on 160km of public roads.

Cycle Tour Trust director Dave Bellairs told the newspaper that organisers of the "Prudential Ride London" had visited, including London Marathon organising committee head Hugh Brashire.

According to the report, the race in London would start in the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and then follow a 100 mile 160km) route on closed roads into Surrey's countryside.

The Cape Argus cycle tour is the world's largest timed road cycle race.
