UCI picks Innsbruck, Austria, as 2018 road worlds host

AIGLE, Switzerland (AP) — The Austrian city of Innsbruck will host the 2018 road cycling world championships.

The International Cycling Union says its management committee chose to return the event to Austria for the first time since Salzburg hosted in 2006.

Innsbruck, which has twice staged the Winter Olympics, should offer a course that suits climbers.

The next road worlds in October promises a flatter course more suitable to sprinters in Doha, Qatar.

The UCI also awarded the 2018 cyclo-cross worlds to Valkenburg in The Netherlands. The same venue hosted the 2012 road worlds.
