Paris police beef up security for TDF finale

Paris - Police will ramp up security for the traditional Paris finish to the Tour de France on Sunday after the deadly Nice truck attack, officials said.

Cycling's most famous race will reach its conclusion with a sprint down the Champs-Elysees boulevard in the heart of the French capital.

Paris police, on a heightened state of alert following the Bastille Day assault that killed 84 people in Nice and the November terror attacks in the capital, are taking no chances and vowed Saturday "enhanced" security measures.

That includes restrictions on public street access, a crackdown on alcoholic drinks, reduced parking and a ban on fireworks and imitation firearms.

Police also warned they would be checking people's identity and searching bags and vehicles, as well as scouring the entire 113 kilometre (70-mile) route of the final Tour stage from Chantilly just north of Paris.
