Kruijswijk to start despite broken rib

Risoul - Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk will start the 20th stage of the Giro d'Italia despite sustaining a broken rib in a crash.

The 28-year-old had started Friday's 19th stage in the race leader's pink jersey, but that was lost as he suffered a spectacular head-over-heels fall on the rapid descent of the Col d'Agnel.

Hospital X-rays in Briancon showed up a small fracture of one rib.

"When I cough or sneeze, it feels painful. But I want to battle to get on the Giro podium," said Kruijswijk, who is third overall at just over a minute behind race leader Esteban Chaves.

Saturday's penultimate stage is only 134km long but it promises to be a tough one, with three first-category peaks at over 2000m to scale.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
