Ireland's Martin claims second Valencia stage

Madrid - Ireland's Daniel Martin claimed his first victory since joining Belgian team Etixx-Quick-Step with a well-timed attack in the final kilometre to win the second stage of the Tour of Valencia on Thursday.

Martin edged out Spain's Jesus Herrada and overall leader Wouter Poels to take the 163.3km ride from Castellon to Fredes in a time of 4hr 10min 06sec.

It is Martin's first victory since claiming the Tour of Lombardy in October 2014.

Dutch rider Poels holds a 15-second lead over Spain's Luis Leon Sanchez with Italian Diego Rosa a further seven seconds back after winning an individual time trial in the first stage of the five-day tour.
