Paris - French cycling ace Sylvain Chavanel has been ruled out of action for two months due to injuries sustained in a crash during Sunday's Liege-Bastogne-Liege, his Quick Step team announced.
Chavanel suffered a fractured skull and concussion after crashing into another team's car which had braked suddenly in front of him at the end of the prestigious, 258km-long one-day classic.
It has ruled him out of the Tour de France (July 3 - 25), where he would normally be aiming for a stage win.
Chavanel is still in observation at hospital in Liege where he underwent further tests Monday, but will be transported to a hospital closer to home, near Poitiers, on Tuesday.
Quick Step said: "He won't be able to train for at least eight weeks."
