Free shuttle for Cycle Tour

Cape Town - The City of Cape Town is urging spectators at the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour on Sunday 13 March 2011 to park in the central city and catch a free MyCiTi shuttle service to the finish line, rather than park in Green Point.

Cycle Tour road closures

People wanting to use the MyCiTi airport service are notified that the Airport Shuttle Bus will have a slightly different route on Sunday 13 March, the day of the cycle race.

It will depart from the Stadium Station in Green Point until noon, instead of from the Civic Centre Station on Hertzog Boulevard. Stadium Station is located on Western Boulevard and can be accessed from Somerset Road and Fritz Sonnenberg Road via the pedestrian underpass at Green Point Central.

The Cycle Tour’s event day shuttle service will operate on Sunday 13 March, between the central city and the finish line in Green Point.

There will be plenty of parking in the city, as the race is on a Sunday, so spectators are advised to park in the central city rather than Green Point, which is likely to be congested and affected by road closures for the race.

The MyCiTi buses will depart from the bottom of Long Street, opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre, between 08:00 and 12:00.

Between noon and 18:00 they will depart from the Civic Centre bus station on Hertzog Boulevard. The buses will leave approximately every 10 minutes.

They will travel to the Stadium Station in Green Point, which is a five-minute walk from the finish line and the hospitality area. Spectators can catch the same bus back to the central city.

The departure points for this shuttle are a short walk from the central train station and bus and taxi terminuses. Alternatively, spectators can walk from the city centre to Green Point along the popular “Fan Walk”.

The Airport Shuttle Bus will run between the Stadium Station and the airport until 12:00 on the day of the cycle tour. It will take a detour to reach the airport, as the cycle tour starts on Hertzog Boulevard. After noon, the airport shuttle will depart from the Civic Centre Station on Hertzog Boulevard, as usual.

There is no need to book tickets for the shuttle to the finish line as the service is free.
