Blind cyclist's next challenge

Cape Town - Blind adventurer and motivational speaker Hein Wagner and his riding partner Gerrie Olivier won the coveted Frank van der Velde Cup for the first blind rider to cross the finish line at Sunday’s Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour in Cape Town.

Says Wagner: “We’re delighted with the outcome of the race. We rode hard and managed to complete the race in 3:06 hours. Although we wanted to do it in under 3 hours, we had very little support from our bundle along the way and couldn’t rely on them to help us along. We had to set the pace.”

The duo’s next adventure will be the Absa Cape Epic, which takes place from 27 March to 3 April. Says Wagner: “We’re as ready as we’ll ever be for the Absa Cape Epic. Personally I can’t wait for it to start.”

Besides Pragma’s two teams riding this year’s Absa Cape Epic, the company is also responsible for two of the most important services during the gruelling event namely the on route pro and amateur tech zones and daily bike wash. This includes receiving the bikes on the finish line and securely placing them in the bike park after the bikes are washed.

For frequent updates on their training progress and funds raised, follow their official Facebook page – Beyond Vision Mission.  You can also follow the team‘s preparation on Pragma’s website, YouTube and in the media.
