Coe gets top Olympic role

London - Sebastian Coe has been elected unopposed as the new chairperson of the British Olympic Association.

Coe, who headed the London Olympics organising committee, was assured of the position after the only other nominee withdrew three weeks ago. Richard Leman, head of British field hockey, pulled out in deference to Coe's successful running of the London Games.

Coe succeeds Colin Moynihan, who stepped down as chairperson after seven years.

A two-time Olympic middle-distance champion, Coe is also a vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.
