Sunflower Fund CEO completes CT Marathon

Cape Town - “Leading by example” is a personal motto of Tarryn Corlett, CEO of The Sunflower Fund.

Showing true grit and a great deal of determination, she set herself the goal to run her first full marathon - the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon on Sunday, September 21, completing the 42.2km in 5 hours and 30 minutes. By any standards, this is a superb victory for a novice runner.

After losing her Brother, Chris Corlett, to leukaemia when he was only 17-years-old, Corlett has endeavoured to make a difference and assist other families who have lost loved ones or who are going through similar hardships.

“The Sunflower Fund is a small organisation fuelled by passion and commitment.  This was my way of saying that we all stand together and continuously strive for what seems to be impossible.  We will move mountains,” adds Corlett.

“I am in no way a natural born runner. Setting goals is easy, but sticking to them and achieving them is the hard part. With passion and dedication, you can achieve anything.  Having completed this personal challenge, I am filled with a sense of absolute pride and fulfillment. My brother was the strongest, most courageous and inspirational person I knew and therefore I dedicated this challenge in his honour," stated Tarryn.

This feisty CEO also set a hefty fund raising challenge which was to raise R250 000 and then shave her head at the finish line. Whilst donations came pouring in, the target was not achieved.

“Thank you so much to everyone who supported The Sunflower Fund. I am making it my mission to raise the R250 000 and my new challenge will start soon. As so many people wanted to see me lose my hair, it may well still happen! Thank you again, I'm so grateful for the amazing support!” stated Corlett.

Please help make a difference and give hope to patients, suffering with life threatening blood disorders like leukaemia. For more information about becoming a lifesaving bone marrow stem cell donor, please call 0800 121082 or visit www.sunflowerfund.org.za
