Calzaghe too good for Jones

New York - Undefeated Briton Joe Calzaghe beat American Roy Jones jnr by unanimous 12-round decision to retain his light heavyweight title at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

Calzaghe, 36, was cut on the nose and dropped by a left-right combination in the first round but recovered to thoroughly dominate former eight-time world champion Jones and improve his record to 46-0.

Jones, 39, fell to 52-5.

The Welshman won every other round of the fight after the first, peppering Jones with swift combinations and taking the offensive the rest of the way.

Calzaghe cut Jones over his left eye in the seventh round with a clawing left followed by a right and the American had blood streaming down on his cheek the remainder of the fight.

All three judges scored the bout 118-109 for Calzaghe.
