Botha's celebrations TKO'ed

Johannesburg - The result of the WBF heavyweight boxing title clash between South African Francois Botha and Cuban Pedro Carrion, which took place in Germany at the weekend, has been changed into a majority draw.

Botha was originally announced the winner when he defended his crown against the Cuban at Anhalt-Arena in Dessau, Germany.

However the WBF reportedly verified the scorecards and found that the result was actually a draw as two judges Matteo Fratini and Tonio Tiberi scored the fight 114-114 and 115-115 respectively.

The third judge, Jean-Marcel Nartz, had Botha ahead by 115-114.

The draw still ensured Botha retains his title but will likely be required to give Carrion, 39, a rematch.

Botha, 41, also reportedly injured his hand during the bout.
