Bonds to appeal conviction

San Francisco - American baseball home run king Barry Bonds has officially appealed his conviction on obstruction of justice for giving misleading testimony in connection with the BALCO probe.

Bonds's lawyer submitted the appeal paperwork in a US court on Wednesday, six days after Bonds was sentenced to 30 days house arrest and two years probation for his evasive 2003 grand jury testimony.

Judge Susan Illston also sentenced the 47-year-old Bonds to 250 hours of community service and a $4 000 fine.

Bonds owns the Major League Baseball record for most homers in a season with 73 and the career mark with 762.
