World Champ heads to Knysna

Four time and current reigning World Champion, Conrad Stoltz will take part in his very first DUESOUTH XTERRA Knysna presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT on Thursday.

According to Stoltz this is his first Winter in South Africa since 1992. “I am currently experiencing my very first Winter in the Cape.  It is quite a shock, but also very beautiful.  Fortunately my early XTERRA racing season in the USA went so well, with me winning five out of six races, I could take some time out of international racing to visit South Africa.  XTERRA Knysna takes a duathlon format and is the ideal way to introduce new people into the sport of XTERRA, as the swim leg is often the most daunting for beginners.  Personally I don’t mind a duathlon, as long as the course is fun and technical.  I love off road racing,” says Stoltz.

“I’m not sure what to expect in Knysna, but I know that it will be a fast race with quite a few non swimming racing rabbits coming out of the woodwork,” continues Stoltz.  “I am really looking forward to racing Kevin Evans, as he is an amazing athlete and I know that all mountain bike professionals run quite a bit in their off season”.

Stoltz’ visit to South Africa is two-fold as he is also here to help plan his wedding.  After gunning for his fifth XTERRA World Championship title in October this year, Conrad Stoltz will wed former South African Netball Captain, Liezel Wium.

In addition to  Kevin Evans, Stoltz will also face tough competition from Dan Hugo and Lieuwe Boonstra, while Hanlie Booyens and Michelle Lombardi are the athletes to watch out for in the women’s race.

The DUESOUTH XTERRA Knysna follows a run/bike/run format.  Forming part of the much loved Nedcor Big5 Challenge and Knysna Oyster Festival, participants can take part individually or in teams of two.

Prizes up for grabs will include:
A R5000 DUESOUTH voucher
A spectacular KTM Mountain Bike
A XTERRA Wetsuit (one per prize giving)
New Balance Footwear Vouchers  (two per prize giving)
Awesome prizes from Thule Car Rack Systems
