Knysna - The road racing fraternity were greeted by blue skies and sunshine on Sunday for the Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour, a welcome relief after the rain and biting cold of Saturday's Mountain Bike event, and the event saw 2 new winners in the main event.
The mens honours went to MTN rider Aaron Brown, who was delighted to be back on the top step of the podium. The 2009 Triple Crown winner underwent knee surgery which prevented him from defending his Argus title, and this demonstrated to his rivals that he is very near to being back to his best. In 2nd place was Tyler day, with Richard Baxter taking 3rd.
Aaron and his team have just returned from a hard 4 weeks of racing in Europe, and he said that MTN had badly wanted to show that recent races in France had paid off.
The ladies title goes the way of Robyn De Groot, who crossed the line with her teammate, the 'queen of South African ladies cycling', Anriette Schoeman, with Lynette Burger finishing a brave 3rd. Lynette was riding with a broken elbow and wrist suffered in a recent crash.
The entrants in the Nedgroup Investments Big5 Sport Challenge presented by Sport24 had a choice of either the 100km road race on Sunday, or next Sunday's lagoon challenge.
