Cape Town - adidas has been unveiled as the new technical partner of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon following the recent signing of a three-year deal.
adidas will produce the official race t-shirts and will retail the official Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon merchandise at adidas Concept Stores countrywide and involve international icons such as Haile Gebrselassie and the Russian twins, Elena and Olesya Nurgalieva in the promoting of the race at local and international level.
Speaking about the announcement, Managing Director of adidas South Africa, Winand Krawinkel said, “The Two Oceans Marathon is known as the world’s most beautiful marathon, and given its rich heritage and popularity both in South Africa and abroad, we are delighted to welcome the event to our prestigious family of marathons which includes the Beijing, Berlin, Boston and London Marathons”.
“We have some exciting new developments coming up in the next six to eight months, and this new relationship with the Two Oceans Marathon will give adidas the platform to talk directly to the running community about technical product innovations and running activations such as adi-active and our Park Runs”.
Krawinkel emphasised that adidas will be involved for the entire build-up to the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon as opposed to just the week of the event. General Manager and Race Director of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, Rowyn James – who speaks on behalf of the Two Oceans Marathon Association, expressed similar sentiments about the new partnership.
“The strategic decision to elevate our iconic event to the next level becomes a reality by partnering with adidas, an international brand with an established history and tradition in the global athletic fraternity. The adidas brand resonates with our core consumers and target markets in giving the runners an enhanced event experience by offering technically superior products,” said Rowyn James.
adidas has traditionally enjoyed a strong presence at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Expo where its stand has won a Gold award for the past three years. This will be expanded upon in 2013, giving runners a fantastic consumer experience.
