SA’s 200m champs in action today

Beijing – South African sprint champions Anaso Jobodwana and Akani Simbine are the only South Africans who will line up at the bird’s nest stadium today.

They are both racing in the first round of the 200m events at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

For the two to reach Wednesday’s semifinals they need to make the top three in their heats for automatic qualification, or at least advance as the next three fastest runners at the end of the seven heats.

Jobodwana, who was red-carded for a false start in the 100m first round on Saturday, returns to the track with a point to prove in his favourite event today.

He will start in heat seven (lane 5) at 2.12pm South African time.

A lot is also expected from South African and World Students Games 100m champion Simbine after he reached the 100m semifinals two days ago.
He will start in heat five at 2.58pm South African time.
