Fredericks caps superb season

Johannesburg - One-lap hurdler Cornel Fredericks capped a superb season at the IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakech on Saturday night.

Fredericks added another gold medal to his Commonwealth and African titles, crossing the line in 48.34 seconds.

Kariem Hussein of Switzerland finished second in 48.47, and World champion Javier Culson of Puerto Rico was third in 48.88.

Elsewhere at the two-day event, Zarck Visser secured the bronze medal in the men's long jump with a best leap of 7.96m, with Dutch jumper Ignisious Gaisah taking gold with a best leap of 8.11m.

Wayde van Niekerk finished fourth in the men's 400m final in 45.27 seconds, well behind American LaShawn Merritt, who won in 44.60.
