Johannesburg - South Africa's 800m world champion Caster Semenya will not be participating in this year's Yellow Pages Series, the SABC reported.
That is because her legal team and the International Athletics body are still thrashing out the gender controversy issue. The series starts next week. Despite the turmoil of the last year the domestic season will start in Port Elizabeth next Friday.
Men's 800m world champion, Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, national 400m hurdles champion LJ van Zyl and national steeple-chase champion Ruben Ramolefe are among the athletes who will be competing. But South Africa's 800m women's gold medalist, Semenya, will not appear in the line-up.
Athletics SA interim board’s Ray Mali says: “She will not be taking part in the yellow pages series. I would love to have her as part of the ambassadors or the group that will go to the townships, and conduct clinics and sign autographs, this is the slot I have for her until this is sorted out.”
