SA relay team clinch silver

Daegu - The South African men's 4X400m relay team took silver, earning the nation's third medal at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, on Friday.

The SA quartet, which broke the national record with a slightly different team in the heats, clocked 2:59.87 to finish second behind favourites the United States, who won in 2:59.31. Jamaica took third in 3:00.10.

South Africa's team consisted of Shane Victor, Ofentse Mogawane, Willem de Beer and LJ van Zyl, the 400m hurdles bronze medallist, in the final.

However, double amputee Oscar Pistorius, who ran in the heats, will make history when he receives a medal for his contribution.
