Cape Town - World-renown beverage company, Pepsi Cola has partnered up with the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) as the official carbonated beverage supplier for the next three years.
Pepsi South Africa has redefined the soft-drink industry in the country and the CMA is proud to be associated with this leading international brand.
Pepsi Cola, who has been affiliated with major sporting events around the world, will provide 44 000 litres of Pepsi Cola and other carbonated beverage to the Comrades Marathon, which will be distributed through the 48 refreshment stations along the Comrades Marathon route. To top it off, they will supply 450 000 175ml Pepsi Cola branded paper cups at the refreshment stations on race day.
Merlin Norman the Marketing Manager for Pepsi SA added that the company is proud to be associated with the world's greatest ultra marathon.
"We are excited to be involved in this year's Comrades Marathon - this event is one of the highlights in South Africa's sporting calendar and we hope this will be one to remember," said Norman.
Sifiso Nzusa, Board Member of the Comrades Marathon Association said he was very excited about the new relationship between the Comrades Marathon Associaition and Pepsi.
"It is so fitting that two major brands could come together under the banner of the greatest sporting event in South Africa. This sponsorship will aid those runners who still prefer carbonated drinks for sustenance while running the Comrades Marathon. On behalf of the CMA, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to Pepsi," said Nzusa.
Comrades Marathon Race Director Johan van Staden said he is delighted to have Pepsi Cola on board as the official carbonated beverage sponsor, as the two leading brands are in perfect alignment when it comes to leading the way in road running.
"I am looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Pepsi Cola and know that all the runners appreciate the availability of Pepsi on route," said van Staden.
The 2011 Comrades Marathon has attracted staggering numbers with 19 617 runners confirmed. The race takes place on Sunday 29 May and starts at 05h30. The race is broadcast live on SABC2.
