Johannesburg - World 800m champion Caster Semenya's preparations for the major assault on the Commonwealth Games are well on track, according to a report on the Sowetan website.

This is despite finishing third during the Samsung Diamonds League meet in Brussels on Friday.

Semenya's coach Michael "Sponge" Seme said they were happy that the celebrated athlete's fitness was beginning to take shape.

"We have always maintained that the bigger picture for us is the Commonwealth Games. We want her to be in the best of shapes during the games scheduled for India in October. Caster is targeting a gold medal," he said.

The 19-year-old South African had to sit out of competition for 11 months after her astonishing gold-medal performance at last August's Berlin world championships while controversial gender tests were completed.

She was cleared to compete against women by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in July.
