SA duo struggle at Diamond League in Birmingham

Cape Town - The small South African contingent struggled to hit top form at the IAAF Diamond League Meeting in Birmingham, England on Sunday.

Javelin Thrower Sunette Viljoen, who had won her specialist event at two of the first five legs in the top-flight series, settled for seventh place with a best heave of 58.54m.

She was more than seven metres short of the winning throw produced by Madara Palameika of Latvia who launched a best attempt of 65.68m.

Sprinter Carina Horn also battled, clocking 11.57 seconds into a -3.1m/s headwind to take fourth place in her 100m heat.

She was unable to progress to the final.

The seventh leg of the Diamond League series will be held in Oslo, Norway on Thursday.
