Fordyce set to run for Mandela

Johannesburg - Veteran South African ultra-distance runner Bruce Fordyce has confirmed he will take part in the inaugural Mandela Day marathon in Pietermaritzburg on August 26.

Fordyce, 56, has become a running legend, having completed a staggering 30 Comrades marathons and winning the race nine times between 1981 and 1990.

"I am very proud to be involved in the Mandela Day Marathon," Fordyce said.

"I am looking forward to being a brand ambassador for the run going forward."

The race, which has the approval of the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Mandela family, according to the organisers, commemorates key parts of Madiba's life.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
