Entries open for Gun Run

Cape Town - Entries for the 2010 OUTsurance 94.5 Kfm Gun Run, one of Cape Town’s most popular road running events, are open and participants can enter online at www.topevents.co.za or pick up an entry form from sports shops and running clubs.

The event takes place on Sunday, October 10 and participants can take part in the 21km half marathon, 10km run/walk or the 5km fun run/walk, which is specifically aimed at families, younger participants and walkers

Traditionally the half marathon is one favoured by novices as the route is easy and flat, which makes it a great race to do for one’s first half marathon.  Last year a new route was introduced because of the construction in and around the stadium.

This route will be similar for 2010, and takes the runners through the new stadium precinct and again out towards Camps Bay instead of through the city centre, which means there are a few hills along the way, but the views certainly make up for it and it’s still a favourite with novices. The 5km is routed through the Green Point Urban Park with its new walkways through the golf course.

All three distances start in Beach Road, Mouille Point and finish on the Sea Point Promenade opposite Winchester Mansions and Rocklands Beach. The Cape Field Artillery will fire the cannon to start all three events and then again at 10:00 to mark the cut-off.

The half marathon route will take participants past the 94.5 Kfm studios in Somerset Road, where the radio station’s staff will be hosting a refreshment station that will provide water, energy drinks and entertainment to help the runners on their way.

The 21km starts at 07:00, the 10km at 07:30 and the 5km at 07:45. Cut off is at 10:00 so participants have ample time to complete the events.

Entries close on Friday, October 1 and no late entries will be accepted after this date.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
