Cape Town - Suspended Athletics SA president Leonard Chuene has hit back at the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), accusing its bosses of reckless spending and nepotism, according to a report on The New Age website.
Chuene, who is suspended with pay, said the SASCOC bosses and board members were awarding themselves huge allowances, amounting to R1.8m. According to the 2009-10 financial statement, SASCOC president Gideon Sam received the most at R222 000 while other board members received between R150 000 and R180 000.
It has also emerged that SASCOC has spent way over R1.5m on investigating ASA following the suspension of Chuene, his deputies Kakata Maponyane and James Dlamini, and general manager Molatelo Malehopo, over the Caster Semenya gender debacle.
