Chuene left ASA bankrupt

Johannesburg - The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee says suspended Athletics South Africa (ASA) president Leonard Chuene has driven the organisation to bankruptcy.

SASCOC has also found Chuene guilty of violating 800m world champion Caster Semenya's dignity over the gender row.

Chuene was found guilty on nine charges by an independent inquiry panel this week, 15 months after the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) called for an investigation into ASA affairs.

SASCOC said in a statement on Monday Chuene, ASA vice-president Kakata Maponyane and executive member Simon Dlamini, were all found guilty following a lengthy disciplinary process.

The charges and the results of the disciplinary inquiry between Athletics SA and Chuene, Maponyane and Dlamini are:

Charge 1 (Chuene) and charge 7 (Maponyane): The Caster Semenya issue.
Guilty

Charges 2, 3, 11, 12 and 13 (Chuene, Maponyane and Dlamini): Staff loans.
Guilty

Charge 10 (Chuene), Charge 1 (Maponyane) and Charge 1 (Dlamini): Keeping of ASA Board minutes.
Not Guilty

Charges 4 (Chuene) and Charge 7 (Dlamini): Settlement by ASA of the Mokgoatjana claim.
Guilty

Charge 5 (Chuene): Sale of Mercedes-Benz to Chuene for R1.
Guilty

Charge 6 (Chuene, Maponyane and Dlamini): Employment of Banele Sindani as consultant.
Guilty

Charge 7 (Chuene): Failure to account to ASA for per diem payments.
Guilty

Charge 8 (Chuene): Credit card abuse.
Guilty

Charge 9 (Chuene): Per diems received from ASA and IAAF for the same events.
Guilty

Charge 14 (Chuene) and charge 4 (Maponyane and Dlamini): Payment of performance bonuses to Chuene and ASA  staff.
Guilty

Charge 16 (Chuene): Breach of Section 424 of Companies Act.
