Johannesburg - Women's 800m champion Caster Semenya has landed a herself the role of brand ambassador for a car manufacturer, reports the Sowetan.
She has been sponsored with a brand-new car for the next 12 months.
Great Wall Motors South Africa (GWM) handed the 19-year-old a GWM CB150 ME with her picture and name branded on its sides in Midrand on Tuesday. They officially announced that she would be their brand ambassador.
"I am happy. I appreciate it," said Semenya.
Though she does not have a driver's licence now, she hopes to get it early next year.
"While I'm working on getting my licence, someone will drive me around. I really appreciate this car because, though I didn't mind taking taxis, at least now I'll also have a bit more privacy," she said.
Semenya said she is gradually recovering from a back injury that resulted in her missing the recent Commonwealth Games in India.
Semenya will return to the track in Cape Town this month, provided she passes a fitness test this week, she said on Tuesday.
