Durban - The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has elected its new Board in compliance with its constitution which prescribes that a new Board be elected biennially. The electoral process was overseen by the CMA auditors BDO South Africa.

Peter Proctor was voted in by the electorate as the chairperson of the Board for the next two years whilst Dave Dixon, who had served a seven year term of office as Chairman, was elected to the post of vice-chairperson.

With the CMA being founded as an Association, the main function of the Board is to formulate the strategic policies of the organisation and to ensure the sustainability of The Ultimate Human Race. Importantly, the Board is further tasked with retaining the ethos and traditions, synonymous with this iconic event, which belongs to the people of South Africa.

The following members were elected for the forthcoming term of office - Faith Mabele, Celi Makhoba, Jeff Minaar, Sifiso Nzuza, Jeremy Boulter, Macdonald Chitja and Ian Kerford. These members all share a long association with the CMA, and the one fresh addition being Ian Kerford brings with him hands-on experience and a deep passion in setting up the Comrades start venue.

On his new role as Board chairperson, Peter Proctor said: ‘I am grateful to all CMA members for the confidence they have shown in me. I aim to serve the interests of the CMA and take The Ultimate Human Race to new heights’.
