Blake apologises for antics

Montego Bay – As the Jamaican 4x100m relay team stood upon the podium in Daegu after receiving their gold medals, one could not but notice 100m individual champion, Yohan Blake’s apparent lack of respect during the playing of his nation’s national anthem.

A report on Kingston-based newspaper Jamaican Observer’s website, suggest that a number of Jamaicans expressed their disgust at Blake’s actions and even questioned his maturity.

The 21-year-old Blake has since apologised for his actions.

“I apologise unreservedly for my behaviour and will ensure it never happens again as I continue to strive to be a good ambassador for Jamaica,” Blake told the Observer.

He went onto say that although his actions may have been interpreted as being disrespectful, but he never did it intentionally and attributed it to his over-exuberance at winning his second gold of the championships.

Blake will make his first competitive appearance as the 100m world champion on Thursday when he takes part in the next Diamond League event in Zurich.
