Durban - Apart from a broken ankle, no other major incidents have been reported from the 2010 Comrades Marathon, so far, according to the medical convenor, Jeremy Boulter.
A woman from Bloemfontein fell at the start of the race and was taken to Netcare's St Anne's hospital in Pietermaritzburg for treatment.
"Apparently, she slipped on a black bag at the starting line but she was taken to hospital immediately where it was confirmed she had broken her ankle," said Boulter.
One other patient has been taken to hospital with chest pains and abnormal electrolytes but it was mainly precautionary.
"I feel certain it is nothing that a bit of fluid won't fix but we cannot take the risk so we sent him to hospital." confirmed the doctor.
While the medical tent is busy, fortunately, it is mainly with athletes being treated for cramp.
