Johannesburg - Nine sport and culture department officials have been suspended amid claims of maladministration, spokesperson Abe Mogashoa said on Tuesday.
He said the three senior managers and six junior officials were suspended last week.
Some of them appeared before a disciplinary committee last Wednesday. They had asked for a postponement.
The allegations against them included conducting business with the government without declaring their interests.
Mogashoa said the department had sufficient information to impose immediate suspensions.
He would not release the names of the suspended officials.
