2017-06-08 18:16

Cape Town - Sport24 produces (get this) over a hundred articles a day... Yes, we're that awesome!

In case you missed any of the sporting action, here is a round-up of the top FIVE stories:

1. RONALDO RETAINS WEALTHY STATUS

Oh to be young, beautiful... and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid star remained atop of Forbes magazine's list of 100 highest-paid athletes - making $58 million through his football salary ALONE.

2. GET YOUR CALCULATORS! PROTEAS CAN QUALIFY FOR SEMI FINALS

It seems like it's Déjà vu all over again.

Following their 19-run Duckworth-Lewis loss to Pakistan on Wednesday, the Proteas must beat India in London on Sunday to ensure progression to the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Sounds familiar right...

However, there are some ifs in this situation so we decided to breakdown the various possibilities...

3. HAKA CREATOR UNDER-FIRE

In case you missed it, the Blues unveiled their new haka in front of a 40 000-plus crowd at Eden Park before their upset win over the British and Irish Lions on Wednesday.

However, it received some flak after critics complained it included a throat-slitting gesture that was offensive to victims of the London terror attacks.

The composer of the Blues' haka went on to defend the war dance and said no offence was intended...

4. GOOGLE 'RENAMES' MARGARET COURT ARENA

Even a search engine as big as Google got swept up in Margaret Court's controversial comments.

Court, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles, has made headlines with her controversial stance on homosexuality and transgender people.

On Google Maps, the stadium now appears as "Evonne Goolagong Arena" in some searches.

But Google are denying they changed it...

5. PROTEAS V PAKISTAN LOSS IN NUMBERS

It's not a feel-good article, but it gives you more or less an idea of what occurred on Wednesday evening.

Besides the rain, the Proteas poor performance with bat (and a bit with ball) saw the Pakistani's seal a 19-run victory over the No 1-ranked team...
