The quota proposal is short-sighted, and clearly the negative impact of previous quotas has been lost on the Minister. Grass roots sport is sadly neglected despite many promises to the contrary. In recent times, what happened to the multi-million Rand World Cup legacy program? Those fields have already either been reduced to dust or overrun by weeds. Very little of the program still exists. We should be working on providing the facilities and means to encourage broader participation in sports by ALL; and negotiate broader access to international and/or domestic sport across all sporting codes on TV.
Trying to 'fix' representation from the top downward has not, and shall not, work. So much damaged has already been caused by failed past efforts of this ideology, so why repeat the exercise, never mind proposing a worse variation of it? Admit we failed, and not only commit to working toward resolution from the bottom up, but actually follow through long-term (regardless of each change in Ministerial staff).
Minister, do NOT use sport as a way to garner attention and approval among your peers with regard to your personal pursuit of power. The damage your irresponsible utterances have very serious consequences that may take decades to repair. We deserve better.
Quota = Game Over, we all lose Mr Minister.
