There’s nothing nice about heading to Bloem after a thumping loss, but that’s exactly what the Bulls have to do this weekend. To make matters even worse is the fact that the Cheetahs got humiliated in Round 1 by the Lions and history will tell you that the farmers don’t like being red-faced. They will leave everything on the field this time around to ensure some valuable log points.

I expected the opening round to be messy and disappointing after the long build-up, but it never crossed my mind that the Cheetahs would enter game day they did. They have all the guns necessary to hold any team accountable for the smallest of mistakes, but they tried to be too fancy, overlooking the basics. That said, I believe they’ll be a different outfit come round 2.
Johan Goosen has reportedly been cleared to play on Friday night and one can only hope that he doesn’t suffer another injury blow. That monkey’s has been riding his back for two years now and it clearly effects his game. More than anything else he (and Mr Watts on the bench) need to convert their kicks at goal. The mere thought of the amount of matches they’ve lost because of poor conversion stats, make me cringe.
Let’s just pray the coach allows the team to settle enough before ringing the changes.
There are numerous playmakers that can create a try in the blink of an eye. Guys like Willie le Roux, Shaun Venter, Goosen and the speedy wings are capable of turning a game on its head in split seconds. For that matter the entire Cheetahs backline are quite dangerous when the space is created. Keep the ball among the fierce forwards long enough to draw in defenders and voila, it game on!

My sixth sense is telling me that things are likely to spiral out of control in the Bull camp and they’ve relied on their perfect kicking game for far too long and now there’s no-one around to fill those boots. Hougi also need to take a hard look in the mirror, or maybe review some videos, and get back to the form he was in during the 2011 World Cup.
Their backline looks insecure with ball in hand and the forwards are merely going through the motions. Bar one guy – Jacques du Plessis was their lone shining star against the Sharks and he’s gonna need a lot of support when coming face to face with the home side’s terrific trio. There was talk about Deon Stegmann making a return from injury this weekend, but at the time of the team announcement, his name was not on the sheet. Maybe a blessing in disguise…
In conclusion I think it’s gonna be another miserable day at the office for the cammo crusade.
