This is one of he most ridiculous things EVER!!!
A couple of points to ponder...
The government has had almost 20 years to "build up" players of colour and yet they persist with a quota system.
They could have invested properly in the youth, building sports schools for PDI's and giving them proper training and opportunities...
Yet, and because of THEIR failure to do so, they persist with a quota system.
Players that were 5 at independence time would've been in their early 20's by now and, had the government been clever and focused on developing the youth, well....
Then there is the point of "disadvantaged individuals"....
Previously.... Sure, but focussing on the past is not a clever thing to do.
So let's rather look at the current and in include ALL children, irrespective of creed and colour and look at providing them opportunities above the means of their parents...
Why do we want to bring race into sport in the first place!?!
Sports and politics don't mix!!!!
Are we fighting about quota in soccer? No...
Sport, as most things in life is about competency and performance.
Enforce rules that go against this and not only will you weaken the sport, but you will loose people that work hard and have ambition to be at the top, be the best...
They will leave and go ply their trade elsewhere - somewhere where you get recognition for hard work, skill and determination and where you are not judged by the colour of your skin!!!
Look at our rugby today - we have (and have had) so many great players of colour in our national side!!!!
And there are youngsters like Lwazi Mvovo and Siya Kolisi who will soon be household names in the green and gold jersey...
If the government REALLY wants equality and a true representation on the RUGBY field, all school rugby players need to be registered... On a grading/competition level so that we don't have millions registered just to influence the numbers....
Then take a percentage of colour on THAT number and WORK towards getting there.
Don't just enforce a system that does NO good whatsoever for the game!!!!!
Develop develop develop!!!!!!!
It is the ONLY answer.
And that goes from the classroom to the sports field to the home, by the way....
