Match fixing in SA loss?

I was in Algeria in 2005 and  a businessman I met there told me SA cricket was corrupt to the core by bookies. He said "If SA wins the 5 day tests, they will lose the 1 day series". I didn't believe him but looking at this series against New Zealand, it seems he was correct. How can a team not make 50 runs in their 1st innings twice come out in the 1 day series and win? Especially the run outs?
The bookies made a "killing" with this.
