Give Meyer a chance!

I am so tired of reading the rubbish negative comments about Heyneke Meyer and his bok team and this last one from Tank Lanning has just been the cherry on the top.  All the people who put their ridiculous comments after your articles are so anti Bulls and anti Heyneke and everything seems to be about provisionalism.  Why cant we as South Africans stand behind our new coach who was appointed, as we all wanted, to do his job and let him get on with it.  It seems the S.A. rugby public are all rocket scientists who know far more than Heyneke could ever wish to.  Whatever decision he makes or whatever team he chooses he cannot please everybody.  As far as the whole Blue Bulls, tinted blue glasses and all the comments about Heyneke being Blue Bulls biased is concerned it makes me want to scream with frustration and unfortunately I am unable to log onto your site to voice my opinion.

The current team that he has picked only consists of three Bulls players who as far as I am concerned have been picked on merit.  Zane Kirchner is a fantastic full back and has proved his worth time and time again yet we insist on picking on him and bringing him down and pulling him to pieces.  What has Zane done wrong in any of  the matches that he has played - yes he does do a lot of up and under moves but damn he is good at it so why not ?  Juandre Kruger is a great lock and who better in S.A. at the moment than him to pick.  Hougaard is great on the wing, has the X factor and is a great choice - good players but yet we still have to pull Heyneke's selection of them to pieces. WHY?  If there were no Bulls in the team would these people be happy ?

This whole Morne fiasco is another issue that I feel is not justified and is wrongly reported and gone out of control.  So the poor guy has lost a bit of form, have we forgotten about the incredible scores he kept notching up for South Africa in helping us to win so many tournaments and games. Memories seem to be very short when a player is down and out and now nobody has a good word to say about him.  When Bryan Habana went off form everyone was calling for his head but the coach kept on with him and look now - voted player of the year.  Give Morne a break - as we say in rugby "form is temporary but class is permanent".  Morne will be back - he is great!!!

Then again - we have to go into the whole racism debate again - why oh why has this never been an issue with our soccer team.  Why has nobody (including our wonderful government) EVER complained about the lack of white faces in the soccer team??? Why has this never been made into the huge debacle that the rugby has been made into - can somebody please explain this to me for once and for all???  Now we are reporting that Heyneke doesn't like Blacks - how dare you??

My opinion about all this is to give Heyneke Meyer a chance - he is also sitting with a lot of our top players out with injuries and is this his fault?  Give the man his due - he is a great coach and he hasnt had a chance in hell to prove himself yet - two weeks to pick his first team with all the injuries, then to try and juggle them around after that to find out which combinations are playing and working etc, etc.  Leave him alone to get on with his job and keep the flipping politics and provisionalism out of rugby and perhaps we can start looking forward to becoming no.1 again - there is nobody better than Heyneke Meyer to do it !!!!
