Cape Town - Sport24 readers have paid homage to legendary Springbok and Cheetahs flank Juan Smith, after he announced

Sterkte vorentoe."

A very sad ending to a fantastic career, Juan was and still is a prime example to many other rugby players out there who chase money and disregard loyalty. I am sure that he had received many offers over the years to apply his trade elsewhere, however he remained loyal to the Free State. Juan enjoy the your vacation with your family , what ever the future holds for you may you be successful off the field as you where on it."
"All the best for your future Juan. This morning I head the news on the radio and got this huge lump in my throat - I was so looking forward to your return and at least I had the honour and privilege of watching you play in your last match. You are a legend and always will be and I personally would like to thank you for your part that you always took in helping the Boks to where they got in so many matches. You are going to be sorely missed."
- Serena Boyle
Jy bly 'n yster!!"
- Monte Pienaar"Without a doubt the greatest no. 7 SA has ever had. And
when on top form, the best blind side flank of the modern era. I remember reading an article where members of the All
Blacks said that from the great Springbok team of 2004 - 2011, Juan Smith was
the player they feared and respected the most. And this in a team that had the
likes of John Smit, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Fourie du Preez, Schalk
Burger, Jean de Villiers and Bryan Habana. Wow. What a legend."
- Imraan Deaney
"It’s sad to see another stalwart bowing out of the game of rugby due to injury. Be that as it may, it was great to see and have Juan in a Springbok team. With him there you always knew that the opposing team, local and international, was going to be in for a hard day at “the office”." - Chris Engel
"If we were at war, he seems like the guy I would want in the trench with me. What a shame we won't see him don the green and gold again. All the best to him." - Grant Howard
think I ever saw Juan Smith play a bad game in his life. Sad that injuries
robbed us of the best years of his life. My player of the tournament in the 07
RWC and nogal from a dyed in the wool Province fan." - Leon Coetsee
