Cape Town - Sport24 readers have commended the three South African Super Rugby teams who beat their New Zealand opposition in Round 4 of this year's tournament.
With the Cheetahs defeating the Highlanders 36-19, the Stormers beating the defending champion Chiefs 36-34 and the Bulls enjoying a 28-21 victory against the Blues, South Africa teams enjoyed a clean sweep over their New Zealand foes in one of the best weekends for South Africa in their Super Rugby history.
It was also the first time that the Bulls had ever beaten the Blues in Auckland.
The last time South African teams recorded three wins on a single weekend against New Zealand sides, on April 24/25, 2009, all three wins were at home - the Cheetahs beat the Crusaders in Bloemfontein (20-13), the Bulls beat the Chiefs in Pretoria (33-27), while the Stormers beat the Highlanders in Cape Town (18-11).
South African teams also managed the feat on the weekend of February 16/17, 2007, when the Sharks beat the Highlanders in Durban (23-16), the Lions beat the Crusaders in Johannesburg (9-3) and the Stormers beat the Chiefs in Cape Town (21-16).
The only other time that South African teams won home and abroad was on April 13/14, 2001. On that weekend, the Lions beat the Blues in Whangarei (26-23), the Sharks beat the Chiefs in Taupo (24-8) and the Stormers were too strong for the Crusaders in Cape Town (49-28).
Here's what Sport24 readers had to say about SA's dominance last weekend:
"Well done Bulls, Stormers and Cheetahs! Good clean sweep for SA sides over NZ! Now keep it going!" - rais.frost
"Happy for all the Saffa teams. However, much to early to take the S15 cup to the bank. This is the type of weekend the NZ S15 teams usually have, perhaps explaining why they do not usually crow about it in the NZ Herald ruby sites - they are used to winning, and we are not." - Rocco.de.Wet
"As a South African first and a Stormers supporter second, it gives me the greatest joy that firstly the Cheatas and the Bulls won away from home.....what a fantastic two days for SA rugby with the Stormers also having a magnificent win, I am bursting with pride in our teams." - Terence Nothnagel
"The All Black teams will come back with a bang." - Dan McCaw
"New Zealanders struggle when confronted by a physical pack. I can't wait for the Rugby Championship." - Sihle Zondie
"It was a convincing performance by the Bulls. The Stormers were also pretty good in seeing off the Chiefs - and full marks to the Cheetah's for their convincing win. The Sharks have won 3 out of 3, even though they have only played at about 50% of their potential. All in all - it's looking quite rosy for South African teams." - Terry Burne
"Great display from all SA Teams this weekend..." - Louis Fourie
"Super 15 success has never had any bearing on Test performances." - Jimmy NZ
"It's early days in the S15, the usual suspects will all settle down and the wheat will be sorted from the chaff." - FerretGee
"All SA Rugby supporters should be proud of the fact that this weekend was a complete clean-sweep over the NZ teams. Well done Cheetahs, Stormers & Bulls! Now, if only people could get over these petty provincial rivalries..." - Wade Johnson
"I will always support a South African team against a foreign team, because our national team will be made up of players from all local provincial players." - Robert.Rob.7505
