This is what Sport24 readers had to say about the Proteas' exit from the tournament:

"India and SA will meet again at the airport." - lownabester

"We still hold the title of world champion chokers!" - Andrew Hendrikse

"Pathetic display. The usual 'Eks jammers ouens' nonsense from the so-called captain. Far too much holistic and new age rubbish going on with self-styled 'guru' Upton; are they going to prepare for the Aus tour by transcendental meditation? Stop the new age rubbish, and start doing things like BOWLING a line and HITTING the ball."
- Najanivea

"The minute our team will admit the problem concerning their lack of BMT openly, the healing will start. Until then it will haunt us."
- colin.steyn5

"They're paid a helluva a lot of money to play a game; the least they can do is show some sort of fighting spirit."
- NN

"We just have to fact the facts. The reality is that we don't possess the players capable of winning a WC, especially T20. Teams like Pakistan and Australia have that big match temperament and toughness that our cricketers just don't have."
- Dave.Askew.583

"This is what happens when you don't take this format of the game seriously and use it for experimentation and bringing through youngsters. eg. Kallis was rested for the T20's against England. Then when you get to a major tournament you realise you don't have balance or a settled team."
- HQ

"The problem is that AB is not the best captain for this format of the game - Johan Botha is..."
- JM

"I want to categorically state that the South African team are Not, I repeat NOT chokers. They just happen to get some foreign object stuck in their collective throat when a global tournament is hosted by the ICC which restricts their ability to breathe freely. This medical phenomenon is currently under investigation." - johan.venter.71404

"I'm struggling to work out one thing though; which came first, the choker tag or the choker syndrome? Egg or Chicken?" -  Wanda Novukela

However, some Sport24 readers took the Proteas loss in their stride...

"It's ok AB, we are used to disappointment. lol!" - boom.afridi.56

"Don't worry AB, you're in good company with Bafana-Bafana and the Springboks letting S. Africa down..." - faldiemeyer

"AB, your apology has restored my faith in Protea cricket, because it proves how much you care about the standard of play and also the fans. We haven't seen that in YEARS - all we had was silence or excuses."
- Jason

"I'll say it again, this is not a sport and certainly not cricket. This is a made for TV gameshow. Wait till we meet any of these teams in ODI or Test cricket..."
- squeegee pilot

"The problem is Our fans are stupid. 'Choke', 'choke', 'choke'. I'm tired of it now. If you don't want to support them, don't freaking watch." -  lean.sadie

"Chin up, AB, still world no1 in the format that matters, and you guys have been on tour for literally months. I don't care about the results. Sure it's awesome to win, and we do win on the majority of occasions. But I will always support you guys because I know you are quality cricketers."
- J

"Don't jump on this choking bandwagon. The majority calls this side a bunch of failures for not winning limited overs cricket after they've consistently beaten sides away from home in the most grueling format of the game, just shows you the rank immaturity of our fan base. I'm not happy for losing. But not shattered either."
- Jacques

"What about the last Test in England? Was that not the BIGGEST crunch game the Proteas played in the last 10 Years? Did we choke? No we took the Highest honours in cricket with flying colours, now please get over yourself, we were never the favourites to win this tournament anyway!"
- Jaco Groenewald

"Even if South Africa wins every single ICC tournament from here on end I would place more value in test series wins in England, Australia and India."
- stephen.axtel7
