Fans back McLaren for Proteas

Cape Town - Sport24 readers believe Ryan McLaren is the best man to replace Jacques Kallis in the Proteas' Test team following his retirement.

Convener of the national selection panel, Andrew Hudson, earlier this week named Ryan McLaren and Wayne Parnell as the leading candidates to fill the void left by legendary all-rounder, Kallis.

Sport24 readers seemed to agree with Hudson's choice of McLaren, with 45% of the total voters polled giving him a ringing endorsement as Kallis' successor.

The second favourite choice was Albie Morkel with 17% of the vote, whilst 13% of voters believed the only solution to filling Kallis' boots was to pick a specialist batsman and a specialist seam bowler and to drop another player, possibly the spinner.

Sport24 asked:

"Who would you like to see replace the retired Jacques Kallis in Test cricket for the Proteas' upcoming series against Australia?"

This was the response:

45% - Ryan McLaren
17% - Albie Morkel
13% - Pick a specialist seam bowler and batsman, and drop the spinner.
11% - Wayne Parnell
11% - AN Other
3% - David Wiese
