Fans back AB for captaincy

Cape Town - Sport24 readers believe AB de Villiers would be the best choice to replace Graeme Smith after the former SA captain's retirement.

Following Graeme Smith's retirement in the wake of Australia's tour of South Africa, most pundits picked AB de Villiers and Faf de Plessis as the two players most likely to succeed Graeme Smith.

In our online poll, AB de Villiers was the overwhelming favourite to replace Graeme Smith with a majority 64% of the vote.

Sport24 asked:

"Who do you think should be the next captain of the Proteas?"

These were the results:

 64% - AB de Villiers

18% - Faf du Plessis
