Fans: Take the money, Kings!

Cape Town - The consensus among a majority of Sport24 readers is that the only thing that could be worse than the Lions staying in Super Rugby is for the Kings to join it!

This followed a report that the Kings allegedly accepted R40 million and promotion to the Currie Cup instead of participation in Super Rugby in 2013, which the Eastern Cape union later denied.

Here is what Sport24 readers had to say about the Kings' inclusion in the 2013 Super Rugby:

"If the Kings play next year then SA teams get 4 byes, 2 worth 4 points and 2 worth 5. That's an automatic 18 points. Nice!"
-  Jason

"Why would they take the offer? If you play Super Rugby you get a R40mil share of the TV money every year anyway. For a deal to be made, the amount will have to be at least 3 times that."
- Marius Oliver

"Spineless people are known to bend over backwards like ribbons in the PE wind when confronted with R40M." - Jacques

"The only SA teams that should be in Super Rugby, are the three teams currently left in the competition: The Stormers, Bulls and Sharks. Who cares if the Lions, Cheetahs or Kings play? Same can be said for the Force and Rebels." - Francois

"I actually hope they play, its been a while since we've seen cricket scores in rugby...Crusaders 101 - 3 EP Blings." - Wessiewes

@wessiewes "Where the Kings gonna get 3 points from?" - Graemeltd"

"Not difficult to predict which team will be last placed in next year's Superugby competition."
- PieterFHansen

"The Kings don't deserve to be there and they would put our country's rugby tradition to shame." - FrancoisSpruyt

"The Lions played the 'Mighty EP Kings' in a warm up match pre-season. The score was 88 - 0 to the Lions." - Mynhardt Dicks

"The Kings would be absolutely stupid not to take the money, grow the players, buy a few, get experience in a bigger league and then try in three years time. A great windfall situation for them, which they don't deserve."
- Mandy Casey

"They are trying to squeeze more out of the SARU circus."
- Rob West

"This will indeed be a sad day for SA rugby. EP Kings have a play off game with the Lions and if you win, then go through, but if you lose, which you will, how the hell can you replace them. Come on SARU catch a wake up, these guys are going to embarrass us next year!"
- Martin Fick

"What have the Kings done to deserve Super Rugby? They can't even get into the Currie Cup! Why should they replace a team that has won it?" - Daniel Malan

"Give the Super Kings 16 years of Super Rugby and they will win more than 3 games a season."
- Charles Dumbwin

"The dull Lions have been last in Super Rugby for years now." - Malavi10

"EC rugby on the rise. Cheeky, you are doing amazing work. EP Kings, 3/3, Promotion to the Currie Cup on the cards." - Luke Sportify

"Give another franchises a chance they can't do worse than the Lions." - Sullivan Fritz
