Fans: Don't sack Gordon!

Durban - Despite Bafana Bafana's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) failure, most fans think it would be madness to sack Gordon Igesund after the team has shown a vast improvement.

According to Gordon Igesund's Bafana contract, his job was only assured after the Africa Cup of Nations if South Africa progressed to the semi-finals of the competition.

This is what fans had to say following South Africa's Africa Cup of Nations heartbreak:

"It's not so bad, let not forget where Gordon found this team after the mess caused by SAFA and Pitso.Consolation is a much improved Bafana Bafana under Gordon given so little time."
- jose.perotta

"I just hope (SAFA) will keep Gordon as coach, we will get somewhere with him in charge. In my opinion he did a great job considering the amount of time he had to prepare our players for this tournament."
- Poloyokata

"The spirit was good and the team are now beginning to play decent football. We can build on this - we were unlucky tonight - penalties are never fair! We have some good young prospects and a more settled midfield. Let's be there in Brazil." - Graham.A.du.Plessis

"Ok, let's put this into context ...Mali is ranked 25th in the world and Bafana is ranked SIXTY places lower at 85th! Mali didnt walk all over Bafana last night, Bafana dominated the match so I think Gordon has done a fantastic job with this new team since July and I wish them all the best for the World Cup qualifiers."
- cynthia.biljoen

"Doing away with Gordon will be detrimental to this much improved team."
- Xolanit Ntuli

"We all know how dismal Bafana were before Gordon took over. Sure, they got knocked out in the QF, but I never expected them to make it past the Group Stages. The quality of football they displayed was awesome, considering how little time Gordon had to work with the team. It would be idiotic of SAFA to let Gordon go. We need consistency going to Brazil - not constant changes of coaches. Bafana played with more heart, guts and determination than I have seen in YEARS. It is now time to focus on Brazil..." - psalm proverb

"Gordon did a good job.... Next time guys."
- Village Boy

"Gordon, you are the best."
- tshepo.kobane

"He is building a team. Give GI time to shape this team. He is the most sucessful football coach in SA history. This team has improved dramatically in a short space of time." - SA.Fanatic.Charou

"GI certainly did his job to the utmost level one could go. In my view, he has a great record, he literally took Bafana from the scrap yard to a luxurious show room!"
- mmtkgope

"Well done, Gordon.you put this team together in a short space of time and got them to believe in themselves and fight for one another which they did."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
