Bok fans vent Pienaar rage

Cape Town - Sport24 readers were scathing about the performance of Springbok scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar after the Boks' narrow win over the Pumas in their Rugby Championship Test on Saturday in Mendoza.

RATINGS: Sport24 chief writer Rob Houwing rates the Boks

A last-minute penalty by flyhalf Morné Steyn sealed an unimpressive 22-17 win for South Africa.

The Springboks were brought down to earth following the heady heights of their 73-13 victory over the Pumas in Soweto.

The scrumhalf's error-prone display will leave coach Heyneke Meyer with a difficult decision when the Springboks play their next Test against the Wallabies in Brisbane on September 7.

Admittedly, Pienaar received scrappy ball and little protection from his forward pack at the breakdown and wasn't the only poor performer in the Springbok team, but Sport24 readers felt he was the worst of a bad bunch.

This is what Sport24 readers had to say about Pienaar's performance:

"Heyneke put Ruan Pienaar on an earlier flight to Australia because he will take longer to get there."
- Paul Botha

"In my opinion Pienaar gets a 2 out of ten, should have been substituted at halftime, he really really sucked."
- Kailin Simpson

"HM should have removed Pienaar, he just wasn't getting his head in the game and cost us dearly."
- Stephen Trenam

"Pienaar should get dumped somewhere far away from the Bok camp as he does no justice to the jersey with his slow game, getting caught in possession, fumbling, never taking the ball to the line or testing defenders around the fringes." - Sean Bagley

"We were on the back foot, and Pienaar made it even more difficult for Morne." - Graeme Blignault

"Jano is a lot better and should have been given a chance." - Johan Botha

"Pienaar was the most useless but it was pretty evenly spread amongst the 15." - Dono

"What Ruan Pienaar is doing on the field only HM would know. He must be the luckiest Springbok ever!" - Blou Bloed

"Stuff nobody says.....ever: 'Ruan Pienaar is the best scrum half ever'" - JJ Maritz

"Stuff everybody says...."Ruan Pienaar is the luckiest scrum half ever." - BB

"Pienaar was poor but didn't get protection."
- Trav Griffie

"Ruan Pienaar was horrible, slow and devoid of decision making." - Israel Levi

"Can we please, please get a better SH? Ruans game is way, way too damn slow, and just continuously kicked the ball away over and over again!"
-  Izzi Max

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
